Luting solutions - state of the art
Cementation is a crucial step in oral rehabilitation with indirect restorations. Mainly three aspects should be considered herein: the restorative material, the luting agent, and the peculiarities of the clinical situation. We will discuss how to assure an effective cementation considering all these strongly connected aspects.
Indirect restorations are used nowadays to solve a wide range of restorative challenges. At the same breath, the large variety of luting agents and techniques currently available make it difficult for clinicians to choose the best alternative for an efficient cementation. The restorative material will certainly play a role in the clinician´s decision, being it lithium disilicate ceramic, zirconia, hybrid ceramic or any other modern alternative. However, the clinical situation remains the most important aspect to be taken into account when selecting the right luting agent and technique. This presentation aims to show the latest advances in indirect restorative dentistry and discuss strategies that are nowadays available to improve their cementation efficiency and durability. These are some of the topics which will be discussed in this lecture:
- Indirect restorations: deciding when to cement and when to bond.
- Optimizing the choice for the right luting material according to the type of restoration and the peculiarities of the clinical situation.
- Practical guidelines to prepare each restorative substrate for an efficient adhesive luting.
- The new trend towards universal luting materials.
Learning objective 1: modern classification of luting agents.
Learning objective 2: indication of luting cements.
Learning objective 3: pre-treatment of restorative materials for adhesive cementation
Learning objective 4: guidelines for an efficient adhesive cementation
